7-12 EXPERIENCES
All experiences can be differentiated to align with relevant Australian Curriculum and Year 11 and 12 course outcomes.
Biosecurity
Year Level: Grade 7 – Grade 12 (differentiated)
Time: 30 - 45 minutes
Students will investigate the importance of biosecurity in primary production and participate in a simulation to better understand the spread of diseases and the consequences for farmers.
Cattle Management
Year Level: Grade 7 – Grade 12 (differentiated)
Time: 1 hour – 1.5 hours
Students will move the cattle to the yards utilising low stress animal management techniques. They will use technology to scan and record the weight of the calves and discuss why farmers need do this.
Cover Crop Investigation
Year Level: Grade 7 – Grade 12 (differentiated)
Time: 30 minutes – 1 hour
Students investigate how cover crops are used to improve and sustain soil health. They will experiment with various mixtures of plants to discover the benefits that can be obtained and how this contributes to sustainable farming practices.
Dairy Study
Year Level: Grade 7 – Grade 12 (differentiated)
Time: 30 minutes – 1 hour
In the Dairy Demonstration Shed, students will explore how our dairy cow produces milk and are given the opportunity to interact closely with her.
Digital Agri-Technology
Year Level: Grade 7 – Grade 12 (differentiated)
Time: 45 minutes – 1.5 hours
Students will investigate our on-farm sensor system to understand how this technology impacts modern farming.
Learning Snapshots
Egg Production
Year Level: Grade 7 – Grade 12(differentiated)
Time: 30 minutes – 1 hour
Students will investigate our free-range poultry operation. They will participate in collecting the eggs, checking the welfare of the hens, and processing the eggs ready for sale.
Sheep Study
Year Level: Grade 7 – Grade 12 (differentiated)
Time: 30 minutes – 1 hour
Students will visit and investigate the different features of the shearing shed and meet our sheep to better understand the shearing process. They will examine the wool from different breeds of sheep and explore its properties and uses.
Trees On Farms
Year Level: Grade 7 – Grade 12 (differentiated)
Time: 45 minutes – 1.5 hours
Students will investigate trees on farms by visiting our arboretum, shelterbelt, and demonstration plantation, and explore production, sustainability and biodiversity.
